8. Just off the Green on Putting-type Grass
When you find yourself just off the green on turf that you can roll a ball across without much bumps, consider using your Texas Wedge instead of chipping. When in doubt, roll the ball and with this technique you can stop the wind and bounces from interfering with the roll of your shots.
The
Texas Wedge originated in Texas due to the hard ground, and the hot
wind-blown turf just in front of the greens. The Texas golfers were
famous for putting the ball from as far back as 40 yards.I have found that some can use their putter for the Texas Wedge, but some others need to custom fit their Texas Wedge:
Texas Wedge Formula:
To custom fit the Texas Wedge, find turf from just off the green that you can putt on.
Try using your putter, then your 6 iron, then your hybrid, and even a fairway wood. One of these will be better than the others.
With a little practice with this Texas Wedge Formula, you too can be like the Texas golfers and get the ball to roll onto the greens and closer to the pin.
